Charities Against Fraud

Charities Against Fraud is a partnership of over 40 charities, professional representative charitable bodies and other not for profit stakeholders working together to combat fraud targeted against charities. This includes the Charity Commission, Fraud Advisory Panel, Charity Finance Group and Foundation for Social Investment as well as charities such as Oxfam and Help for Heroes.

With a total income of over £69 billion, the charity sector is vulnerable to fraud and financial crime so it is essential that we help to improve the charity sector’s resilience. To assist charities with their counter fraud activities, Charities Against Fraud's website provides an initial point of reference for trustees, staff and volunteers who want to find out more about tackling fraud in their charity.  It includes guidance, top tips, case studies, as well as signposting to other organisations tackling charity fraud.

To promote awareness and the importance of counter fraud, Charities Against Fraud also lead a week-long campaign during October called ‘Charity Fraud Awareness Week’, which this year will take place during the week of 23 – 27 October. The campaign aims to not only raise awareness but remind charities how to limit their fraud risk, so that trustees and staff can recognise the warning signs of fraud and shape an effective and proportionate response.
