Born in 1954 Robert Newman qualified with a local practice in Salisbury. This gave him his first insight with the charity and education sectors as that firm had a portfolio of large charity clients as well as a significant number of private schools.
On qualifying in 1980 he spent two years with the Southampton office of Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) where he acted for a University.
Robert Newman joined Moore Stephens in 1986 and was made a partner in 1987.
Robert has responsibility for a wide variety of clients in the “owner-managed” environment and is actively involved in the Moore Stephens UK education and public sector groups.
For six years of the grant maintained regime, Robert was the Moore Stephens UK representative on the Auditors Forum, which met quarterly with the National Audit Office, Department for Education and other auditors to discuss the overall audit strategy for the sector.
His charity sector engagements include not only audit services but also, more recently, recommending accounting systems for a large army training charity near Salisbury. This work is also supplemented by Robert’s role as a trustee to the Alabare Christian Care Centre on the finance committee.
