Estate administration
Snow Hill Legal is acting for the executors of a substantial estate. The will provides the widow with a right to income and on her death the estate will be divided among the deceased’s children from a previous relationship. We advise on how to balance the competing needs of the family members and on the relevant tax planning issues.
International aspects
In 2006 Snow Hill Legal acted for the executors of a US person who lived in the UK. He died leaving assets in the US and the UK. We liaised with the US probate and tax advisors to obtain the most favourable tax treatment possible.
Advising on an intestray
Snow Hill Legal handled an estate where the deceased was entitled to a substantial cash legacy from a relatives will but died before he received it. We traced the various family members who were scattered across the globe. They were delighted to receive their unexpected gifts!
Will drafting
In 2008 we advised a wealthy foreign client who lives in the UK. The client has no children but her long term partner has a family of his own. She is providing for her partner but does not wish his family to ultimately benefit from her estate. Her will incorporates a suitable trust to achieve her wishes. The planning takes account of the relevant international issues.
Trust advice
Snow Hill Legal set up a discretionary trust to hold the death in service benefits paid by an employer on the death of one of its employees. The trust was inheritance tax efficient. It was also a good way of protecting the funds for the long term benefit of the deceased’s teenage son who has learning difficulties.
