Funding innovation and R&D
Other funding opportunities
As the regional business development agency in Northern Ireland, Invest NI's role is to help the local economy grow. As such, they provide a wide range of funding opportunities to support companies' expansion plans or research projects.
Funding for innovation and R&D
If the company has not undertaken any R&D before, Invest NI can provide a grant up to £50,000 to:
Investigate or plan an idea;
Make and test a prototype;
Experiment and refine a design;
Handle intellectual property costs.
If the company has undergoing R&D, the grant provider can support the investment for the following activities:
Scoping, defining and planning an R&D project.
Research or critical investigation aimed at producing new scientific or technical knowledge.
Product or process development or improvements.
Development of leading edge technology.
Linking to a college or university to collaborate on strategically important projects.
The level of funding will depend on the nature of the project and will be subject to discussion with the Invest NI executive.
