Sports governing bodies & associations

The management of risk and implementation of robust corporate governance has become an increasingly important aspect of global business. Many sports governing bodies are required by law, regulations or stakeholders to adopt governance processes and procedures, but even more choose to do so as part of a successful business strategy.

Across England there are many different national governing bodies who have responsibility for managing their specific sport.  Sport England recognises numerous governing bodies and supports over a hundred sports in a variety of ways to help them deliver programmes that get more people playing sport. Between 2013 and 2017, Sport England are investing £500 million into 46 governing bodies who have submitted whole sport plans that will create opportunities for more people to play community sport. All of these governing bodies are experts in their sport and they have developed programmes that address the specific problems that are stopping people from playing.

Our Governance, Risk & Assurance group has significant experience in advising sports governing bodies and offer a range of services designed to support boards in maintaining robust governance and assurance frameworks and managing risks effectively.
