Work placement student Ellis Wyles - my first week at Moore Stephens

My first week at Moore Stephens has been thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding, with all members of staff making me feel like part of the team from day one.

When I walked into the building on my first day I felt extremely nervous, not knowing what to expect, with this being my first job in a corporate environment. However, these fears were almost immediately eased by my allocated buddy Joe, who understood how I felt and reassured me. The comprehensive training I received from staff also helped tremendously. This boosted my confidence and gave me a broad understanding of the business before I had even met my work colleagues in the Marketing team.

Once I met everyone and got settled into my role and its requirements, the tasks began flooding in. This was made less daunting by the training I had received and the willingness of the marketing team to help me out as and when I needed it. I was given responsibility from the marketing managers from the start, such as helping to format the Moore Stephens website and assisting with research into new opportunities for the firm.

I was initially worried about how I would settle in, although as the week progressed I found out I needn’t have been. Everyone made an effort to get to know me, inviting me to take part in activities outside of work which has allowed me to make friends quickly. For example, I went to a ball-pit bar on the Thursday night with the other placement students, and had a welcome lunch with all the marketing team on the Wednesday.

Overall my first week at Moore Stephens has been a great learning experience that I have loved, and I’m looking forward to doing it all again on Monday!
