Helping place trustees in multi-academy trusts

As part of Trustees’ Week, we’re pleased to announce the launch of our collaboration with Academy Ambassadors, a programme helping to place high calibre leaders as trustees on the boards of multi-academy trusts.

Academy schools now account for 74% of secondary schools and 30% of primaries – and their number is continually growing. Many of these schools are grouped together as multi-academy trusts, of which there are currently over 800 with three or more schools. If the schools are to fulfil their potential, the trusts need to bring a wide range of skills and experience to help guide strategy, ensure their ambitions can be soundly financed and keep their schools up to the mark, delivering for their pupils. Trusteeship is a role for people who have the energy and skills to make a real contribution to shaping the future of our schools.

In line with our core value of ‘doing what’s right’ we seek to make a positive contribution to the well-being of the environment and the communities we work in, as well as providing support and development to our people. Our people have the very skills multi-academy trusts are looking for, so with the help of Academy Ambassadors we’ll be able to find exciting opportunities for our people to make a real difference in the sector .

Nick Simkins, Partner and Head of Not-for-Profit, welcomes the launch and says: “We’re a professional services firm with a strong presence and reputation in the academy schools and wider not-for-profit sector. We encourage our partners and staff to volunteer as academy trustees, both for individual personal development and because it aligns with what we as a firm believe in and our corporate social responsibility objectives. We look forward to working with Academy Ambassadors going forward."

Kirsty Watt, Head of Academy Ambassadors, also welcomes the collaboration and says: “Improving the life chances of young people, particularly the disadvantaged, could not be more important. We're delighted that Moore Stephens has chosen to work with Academy Ambassadors, supporting the boards of multi-academy trusts. The rapid growth in the number of academy trusts has generated exceptional demand from trusts for business leaders to join their boards, with financial skills the most sought-after. We look forward to helping match talented Moore Stephens leaders with these important board roles.”
