Moore Stephens grows Not-For-Profit team with three new partners

We are pleased to announce that three new partners have joined our Not-For-Profit team, expanding our offering to the sector. Karen Thompson will lead on charities, Ian Mathieson on membership organisations, with Heather Wheelhouse heading up education.

Heather Wheelhouse joins us from RSM UK, where she was an audit partner and national Head of their Independent Schools division for 13 years.

Previously Karen Thompson and Ian Mathieson were partners at accountancy firm BDO, and later PKF Littlejohn. Ian was Head of Not-For-Profit at both firms and has over 25 years’ experience of auditing and advising charities and membership bodies.

Karen has spent around 16 years working with charities and not-for-profits, both as finance director and COO of two international development charities, and in practice as an audit and advisory partner at PKF Littlejohn and BDO.

Head of our Not-For-Profit team, Nick Simkins, says: “We are ambitious about growing our services and influence in the not-for-profit world, and Karen, Ian and Heather complement and extend the team’s provision of high-quality strategic and operational advice to not-for-profit organisations. Our investment in first class specialists demonstrates our determination to provide a positive impact on the sector.”

Karen Thompson, Head of Charities says: “I am delighted to join the team here at Moore Stephens. I’m looking forward to working with the sector to help charities achieve their vision and mission.”

Ian Mathieson, Head of Membership Organisations, says: “Moore Stephens has an established and long-term commitment to the not-for-profit sector, both nationally and internationally. My aim is to deliver, practical and pragmatic business solutions to the strategic challenges and opportunities our clients, and the wider sector, continue to face.”

Heather Wheelhouse, Head of Education, adds: “I am passionate about education and act as a governor of an independent school and a trustee of a multi-academy trust. I look forward to bringing that real life experience to clients at Moore Stephens and growing the education practice.”
